I studied computer science at the University of Bonn, specializing in computer networks and communication systems. After graduating, I joined the University of Osnabrück as a research associate, where I pursued my PhD on sensor networks for in‑situ plant monitoring in smart farming. In the course of several projects, I worked on robust and energy‑efficient wireless communication and IoT technologies, as well as on security and privacy approaches.
Since 2020, I have been leading the “Maritime Cybersecurity” research group at the Fraunhofer Institute for Communication, Information Processing and Ergonomics (FKIE). The group focuses on the cybersecurity of maritime systems, ranging from integrated ship bridges of modern container vessels to unmanned underwater vehicles. My work includes security and risk analyses, offensive vulnerability assessments, the development of effective and retrofittable security solutions, as well as maritime simulation and development environments.
