TwinEU Reaches Halfway Point: Presentation of Results and Setting the Course Ahead
TwinEU Project Reaches Major Milestone at Halfway Point
Budapest, June 2025 – The TwinEU project has officially reached its halfway point. After 18 months of collaboration, innovation, and progress, the consortium convened in Budapest for its 4th General Assembly (GA), hosted by the Budapest University of Technology and Economics and F4STER. The meeting served to review achievements so far and outline the path ahead for the remaining 18 months.
At the GA on 4–5 June 2025, the consortium presented several key developments:
- Open Reference Architecture Finalized: The “DNA” of the TwinEU system, including functional and non-functional specifications for demonstrators and the federated system, is complete.
- Use Case Definition Complete: 50 use cases across 8 demonstrators showcase diverse applications of digital twin technology for electricity systems across Europe.
- Pan-European Scenarios in Development: Cross-border scenarios are being prepared to address strategic challenges such as grid hosting capacity, market co-optimization, forecasting, flexibility management, and system security.
- Interoperability and Data Spaces: The architecture ensures seamless integration between digital twins and European Data Spaces, fostering collaboration among stakeholders while enabling cross-border coordination and preserving local autonomy.
With these milestones achieved, TwinEU is well on track toward its ambitious goal: developing a European digital twin system to enhance the reliability, efficiency, and sustainability of the electricity network.
